SUMMARY
A survey to find out your views on barriers to home ownership in your island and measure the appeal of a potential new type of mortgage product designed to help buyers get onto or move up the property ladder. Our short report focuses on the views of first-time buyers.
258 first time buyers from across the Crown Dependencies participated in the survey on mortgages (predominantly from Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man). Findings highlighted in our short report on first-time buyers include:
- 73% of first-time buyers said that saving for a deposit is the main barrier to purchasing a property.
- Two-thirds of first-time buyers did not believe there is the right mix of mortgage products to suit different needs and budgets.
- 87% of first-time buyers agreed most need help getting on the property ladder.
- However, only 23% of this group said they were likely to receive financial assistance.
